The Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching. University of Toronto National Book Award - A Non Monetary Award - Deadline: Early October
This is an actual book, not a cash award. Recognizes and rewards the very best Canadian secondary school students, regardless of which university those students choose to attend. Every school across Canada is invited to nominate one (1) student on the basis of the qualities and criteria identified below. Students nominated for this award are also encouraged to submit an application to the National Scholarship Program. Award recipients receive a National Book Award recognizing their achievements, and as a symbol of their academic potential. It is a non-monetary award. It is an actual book, which includes a personalized inscription. The National Book Award will be sent to your school in April, for presentation to the student at their secondary school graduation ceremony at the end of the school year.

Non-academic achievements are also recognized by the Ministry of Education. These awards do require an application, which becomes available in the spring (Grade 12's will be informed). Students can fill out an application if they have outstanding abilities in Fine Arts, Applied Skills, Physical Activity, or Second Languages. The awards come in the form of a $1250 voucher to be redeemed at a post-secondary institution.
Community Scholarships - Various Awards (Spring)
These are available in the spring (at the same time as the District Awards) and one application allows students to choose up to (5) scholarships or bursaries on the list. Students must review the list for the individual criteria; there tends to be a focus more on community involvement than on high academic achievement although there are wide variety of criteria for these awards.

Canada Student Loans
Canadian citizens are eligible for StudentAid BC loans. You must register for 60 per cent of a full time post-secondary course load (about 3 courses) AND demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the full-time loans. Loans are interest free, but you are responsible for repaying them after university/ college graduation. Apply in June at: studentaidbc.ca/
When you apply for a loan, you're also automatically assessed to see if your income level qualifies you for a BC Access Grant, a non-repayable provincial aid.

The Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching. Students selected for this award receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher from the Ministry of Education and Child Care that they can use to be reimbursed for tuition paid after they are attending an approved teacher education program in the Faculty of Education at a B.C. post-secondary institution. This is an actual book, not a cash award. Recognizes and rewards the very best Canadian secondary school students, regardless of which university those students choose to attend. Every school across Canada is invited to nominate one (1) student on the basis of the qualities and criteria identified below. Students nominated for this award are also encouraged to submit an application to the National Scholarship Program. Award recipients receive a National Book Award recognizing their achievements, and as a symbol of their academic potential. It is a non-monetary award. It is an actual book, which includes a personalized inscription. The National Book Award will be sent to your school in April, for presentation to the student at their secondary school graduation ceremony at the end of the school year.
Eligibility Criteria: Students must demonstrate superior academic performance, original and creative thought, and exceptional achievement in a broad context. Many awards ask applicants for reference letters.
If you need a letter from a staff member you must:
- Print off, fill out & give this "Brag Sheet" to the person you are asking a reference from. It will be a accurate summary of all your greatness.
- Provide a summary sheet of the award you are applying for.
- Give 10 days' notice ahead of the award deadline, or date you want to hand in application.

District Awards - $1250 (Spring)
Non-academic achievements are also recognized by the Ministry of Education. These awards do require an application, which becomes available in the spring (Grade 12's will be informed). Students can fill out an application if they have outstanding abilities in Fine Arts, Applied Skills, Physical Activity, or Second Languages. The awards come in the form of a $1250 voucher to be redeemed at a post-secondary institution.
Community Scholarships - Various Awards (Spring)
These are available in the spring (at the same time as the District Awards) and one application allows students to choose up to (5) scholarships or bursaries on the list. Students must review the list for the individual criteria; there tends to be a focus more on community involvement than on high academic achievement although there are wide variety of criteria for these awards.

Canada Student Loans
Canadian citizens are eligible for StudentAid BC loans. You must register for 60 per cent of a full time post-secondary course load (about 3 courses) AND demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the full-time loans. Loans are interest free, but you are responsible for repaying them after university/ college graduation. Apply in June at: studentaidbc.ca/
When you apply for a loan, you're also automatically assessed to see if your income level qualifies you for a BC Access Grant, a non-repayable provincial aid.
Entrance Scholarships
Each post-secondary institution offers entrance scholarship opportunities. These are funds to attract students to a particular college or university. Sometimes these scholarships are offered automatically based on high school grades and sometimes additional application forms, resumes and reference letters are required. Any scholarship offer is contingent on accepting the offer of admission for that institution.

STUDENT LOANS
The BC Government offers loan programs to assist in funding post-secondary education. There are many international schools that students can attend and pay for with BC or Canada student loans. Please see Mrs Cheng for more information on this. These funds must be repaid.
