Kwantlen Polytechnic University allows a student to take a 1st year university course while in Grade 12. In the past students have taken English, French, Spanish, Psychology, Criminology, Computer Science, Accounting, and Math. More info in the Career Centre.
Work Experience 12
Try out your future career for 90 hours (4 credits). See Dr. Dean for more information.
CTC and Youth Train in Trades Programs
Information is available on the Delta School District Career Programs site. These programs allow students to study and receive credit for trades training while in high school. More info on these excellent opportunities is also in the Career Centre.
Youth Work in Trades
Get a head start on your trades career while in high school. A complete list of apprenticeable trades is available at the Industrial Training Authority. More info is in available with Dr Dean.

To apply to any post-secondary institute students will need their Ministry of Education Provincial Education Number (PEN). PEN’s are the 9 digit number on your GO card, locator card, report card and a list of PEN’s are in the Career Centre.

Ontario Post-Secondary Schools
The application to the Ontario Post-Secondary Institutes is available at OUAC It is the 105D form. Apply by early January. The application fee is very expensive so do your research and know where you want to go.
SAT Exams for U.S.A Post-Secondary Institutes
Burnsview's SAT registration number is 821076. This must go on your application.
Register on www.collegeboard.com. Flyers are available at the career centre.

Conditional Acceptance
BC universities offer "conditional acceptance" and a registration date based on your second interim grades (these grades reflect September to February school work) that are receive from the Ministry of Education in early May.
SFU wants you to self-report your 1st term grades starting mid-December until mid-April but you will receive "conditional acceptance" and a registration date based on your second interim grades received from the ministry of education.
Remember acceptance is conditional (upon graduating in July and maintaining good grades) until confirmed in late July. Your Grade 12 second interim grades can be as low as 67% for UNBC or as high as 92% for UBC. Save the post-secondary registration number given to you when you apply through ApplyBC and put it in a safe place – you will need it!
All applications to universities and colleges in Canada are now available. In BC, use Educationplannerbc. Students wanting to go to USA universities should have their applications in and their SAT’s booked or done by January.

Student Transcript Service
This free service will allow the Ministry of Education forward your grades to the schools of your choice automatically.
Admission Deadline
Deadlines vary per institute, and even within the same schools some programs have different deadline (nursing is an example of this).
Transcripts
Students will start receiving emails and letters from universities outside BC asking for up-to-date transcripts. These outside of BC institutes want your final Grade 11 and first interim Grade 12 marks sent to them before their stated deadline. It is very important to see how they want these transcripts sent to them.
If any post-secondary institute requests a transcript-even though you chose them as a part of the Student Transcript Service, send it to them! It is your responsibility!
Major Entrance Awards applications are open
If the Career Centre doesn’t have the awards application you want it is up to you to research it. Look into places of employment, unions, financial institutions and organizations to which your parents and grandparents belong because these groups may offer an award.

Self-Reporting
Many univeristies and colleges want you to self-report your second interim grades. Your report card will be issued mid-March before Spring Break. Use your personal site on the universities' website to self-report. Check your account with every college and university you have applied to, to see if you need to self-report

To login to your personal site first go to the institutes' website. Click on "myKwantlen" or "myLangara" or "myUBC" or "goSFU" or whatever words that particular university uses to access your personal site - sometimes it is just "LOGIN". Once there, in most cases, you must enter the student number issued to you from the institute and a password which is your birthdate. Your birthdate password will be numerically ordered either YYMMDD or DDMMYY or MMDDYY. Some institutes, such as UBC have students create a personal site in order to apply.
April
Many of the bigger universities in BC expect you to accept your offer in April. Check your college/university account on how to do this.
May
Second Interim Grades are Released to Post-Secondary Institutes
Your Grade 12 second interim marks are released to the universities by the Ministry of Education in early May to determine faculty entrance percentages and entrance awards. Your transcripts will be released because you completed the PSI Selections form before April 30.
University and College Notification
Universities and colleges will be sending out emails, or letters to notify students of procedures and registration times based on your transcript. All students going to post-secondary school must attend a registration session at their chosen post-secondary institute. Also, remember to pay the registration fee ($100 to $350 depending on the school and program) before your registration time.
Make sure the LPI and/or TOEFL tests are done if you need to do them. Most universities want TOEFL results by April and LPI results by mid July.
Access your provincial scores at the end of July.
All offers of acceptance are conditional until your final grades are reported during the summer.
Academic Advising
All post secondary schools will have an Academic advising team that is available to help you figure out and decide what classes you need to take for your program. Make an appointment with them in May so you have everything ready for Course Regisitration
