References for Scholarship/Bursaries/Awards:
If you need a letter from a school professional, you must:
- give 10 days notice ahead of the award deadline
- complete a student profile and give a copy to your referee
- provide a summary sheet of the award you are applying for
hint: teachers/coaches/community members are busy. Offering them a summary of items you would like them to include, can save them time.

Employment References for Future Job Opportunities:
Some employers can no longer provide personal references due to their company policy (mostly big companies). However, they maybe able to provide basic information about your working hours, reliability, and whether they would hire you again. Ask your current employer for a letter of reference or what their company can do to provide information that you were a valuable employee. Never give a person as a reference if you haven't asked permission first. Some employers will not provide a written reference but will you allow you to provide their name and phone number for a verbal reference. Make sure you let your reference know if they should be expecting someone to be calling to check a reference for you.
